Second essay assignment
As mentioned a number of times in class, for the second essay assignment you will be choosing your own topic. It must be a topic that allows you to compare two texts, one of which can be a short story, that we have read in this course. For instance, you might look at a common theme or a question about literature in general that a text seems to be addressing. In any case, make sure your essay deals with both books at the same time as much as possible. Don't write two mini-essays, one about each book and try to join them in the middle. Find points of comparison throughout.
If you'd like to consult with me about your topic, you can do so in person or via e-mail. If time permits, I will also do my best to look at outlines you have for your essays.
Deadline for the essay is either Friday, December 2nd or Monday, December 5th. If you can get your essay to me on the Friday, you will have a much better chance of getting it back on the last day of class (December 7).
Essay length: 1500 - 1800 words
N.B. Follow the formatting guidelines I outlined with the last assignment. Also, make certain to review my comments on your previous essay in order to improve the quality of your writing where necessary.
