My top favorite songs are
1). Pearl Jam & Neil Young- Keep on Rockin' in the Free World
2). Neil Young- Harvest Moon
3). Sarah McLachlan- Angel
4). Feist- No particular song, I like most of them
5.)Staurt McLean- Dave Cooks the Turkey
I grew up listening to Neil Young and he is one of my favorite artists of all time. Harvest Moon has always been my favorite album of him and Keep on Rockin in the free world is just a classic. My dad is also a big Sarah McLachlan fan and I think Angel is a really pretty song. I like Feist for her unique voice and mellow songs. The Staurt McLean is not asong, its a story. I just thought it was funny and reminded me of my Uncle Bill who just can't cook at all and would do something like that. There was another song on one of the playlists I liked. I thought it was called Le Petit Monde but can't find it again.

I had trouble narrowing my favorites down to five, but I came up with these 5 songs:
1. The Old Apartment - Barenaked Ladies
2. Harbour Lecoun - Great Big Sea
3. Maneater - Nelly Furtdado
4. Locked in The Trunk of A Car - Tragically Hip
5. Angel - Sarah McLachlan
Barenaked ladies was a favorite band of mine in the '90's. Great Big Sea is another favorite band of mine. I have been to many Great Big Sea concerts, and I enjoy their celtic sound. Maneater, by Nelly Furtado is always a fun song to dance to (though I am a bit against her change in image since her "I'm like a bird" phase). Since I was born, I have been forced to listen to the Tragically Hip due to my father's obsession. "Locked in The Trunk of a Car" is by far my favorite song by the band. Lastly, Sarah McLachlan. I do not like the Majority of her musuc, but the song "angel" is just beautiful. That just about wraps up my top 5 favorite songs by canadian artists!! (I also love Celine Dion).

An exciting aspect of this course is to be loaned an iPod full of
music from Canada. I have always liked music and to be
loaned any new music is an exciting opportunity. I found myself surprised that an artist that I had newly come to love (before the course began) was from Canada and I didn’t even know it… and this leads me to my top 5 favorite songs.
One. Feist, Mushaboom. Ideally I would have chosen all 5 songs of hers as my favorites because they truly are, however, for the purposes of this assignment I will explore some different artists. Even though I previously owned the albums Let it Die and The Reminder, the iPod included an interview with Leslie Feist along with some live recordings from KCRW radio station that were new to me. She was born in Nova Scotia and gained a lot of popularity from the Apple iPod Nano commercial featuring her song 1234. Much of her music fits into the indie folk genre and in 2008 her album The Reminder won Juno Award for "Album of the Year"
Two. Pearl Jam & Neil Young, Rockin’ In The Free World. I am a HUGE Pearl Jam fan, I saw them in concert last summer and I enjoy all of their music. Rockin’ In The Free World is a fun song.
Three. Rufus Wainwright, California. I love this song for its upbeat tone. I have known of Rufus for a while but never knew he was from Canada!
Four. Stars, Your Ex-Lover is Dead. I first heard this song on a television show soundtrack and I was drawn to its indie-pop sound.
Five. Hot Hot Heat, Le Le Low. This song is fun and it goes along with my liking of the indie genre however this song leans more toward indie rock.

My five favorite songs are:
1-Moondance-Michael Buble-This is one of my favorite songs because this summer my friend introduced me to Michael Buble’s music and I started to really like it. I like this song in particular because I think it has a really interesting sound. Also, I really enjoy jazz music in general.
2-Wake Up-Alanis Morissette-I picked this song because I’ve like Alanis Morissette for a while. I’d never heard this song until I listened to it on the iPod, but ending up really liking the lyrics.
3-Shania Twain-Man! I Feel Like a Woman-I’ve never been a huge Shania Twain fan, but when I was younger this was one of my favorite songs to listen to with my friends. I can still remember when my friends and I made up a dance to go along with the song. It was always one of those songs that growing up everyone knew.
4-Nelly Furtado-Do It-Nelly Furtado has always been one of my favorite artists because I think her music is extremely versatile. On each album she tries out different sounds. I think this is really cool because there are so many artists who are too worried about people not liking what they produce to take the risk of really changing up their music. I really love Do It because it is a fun dance song.
5-Sarah McLachlan-Angel-I picked this song because I think it is a really beautiful song. Both the lyrics and the sound are really pretty. Also, I like almost all of Sarah McLachlan’s songs.

One. "You Learn" by Alanis Morissette : I love the lyrics to this song ("...you live, you learn...") and it also has a good beat. Plus, my sisters and I used to listen to this song on long car rides to visit family so it brings back good memories.
Two. "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette : Again I think the lyrics to this song are amazing and pretty funny. The song sort of tells a bunch of stories and I love the message. I also really like the beat.
Three. "Canada" by Born Effected : This song literally made me laugh because it made me think of when I was trying desperately to memorize the geography of Canada for the midterm. Also, some of the random lyrics are funny (i.e. "Alaska is not in Canada...")
Four. "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" by Shania Twain : I am a huge Shania Twain and this is one of my favorite songs because it is just so fun. The rhythm, the lyrics, and the singing go so well together.
Five. "Elli" by Maza Meze : This song is different than the usual music I listen to, but I like that about it. I like the drum beat especially and it has a nice Indian flair to it.

1. I never thought I'd be saying this after having my mom play her CD over and over and over when I was little, but after listening to it again on the iPod I have to say my favorite is probably Angel by Sarah McLachlan. It's so calming and her voice is amazing.
2. Falling for the First Time by Barenaked Ladies is another great song. I've known this song for a long time and for some unknown reason I really like it. There's nothing very special about it but I guess it's just one of those classic catchy songs.
3. I also really like the Great Lake Swimmers. I can't really narrow it down to a particular song since they're all pretty similar so I'll just pick the first one which is called Moving Pictures Silents Films. The singer's voice reminds me a lot of Patrick Park and Sufjan Stevens which are two of my favorite artists.
4. Who doesn't appreciate a good Pearl Jam song? I really like the one featuring Neil Young called Rockin' in the Free World probably just because it's such a classic. Generally I don't listen to that type of music but I still definitely enjoy it.
5. Finally, I feel obligated to include a electronica/dance song and my favorite would probably be Twilight by Delerium. I can't even describe it except that it just keeps building on itself and it has this cool kind of eerie feel to it.

1. Hand in my Pocket by Alanis Morissette. I like this song because it's relatable. Its also got a good sound, you could definately sing along.
2. One Week by Barenaked Ladies. I like this song first of all because I grew up with it, so it brings back memories. I love how fast they sing, I always tried to learn all the words. Its definately a challenge and that's why I like it.
3. American Woman by The Guess Who. I like this because I think its a somewhat funny take on American women kind of being trouble. Also I like the guitar in it and my dad's band used to play it so I've loved it since I was little.
4. Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Michael Buble. I liked this because I've always loved this song, but I thought this was a really cool version of it. I like how its jazzy and i love Michael Buble's voice.
5. The Needle and the Damage Done. I'm not really a big Neil Young fan, but I thought this song was really pretty, kind of sad, but pretty.

1. Neil Young & Pearl Jam-Keep On Rockin' In The Free World: This is number one because Pearl Jam is one of my favorite bands and like pretty much everything they do. I
2. Neil Young-Harvest Moon: I first heard this song when i was little listening to parents' music and have liked it ever since.
3. Hot Hot Heat-Le Le Low: I have their first cd and I like some indie rock from time to time.
4. CSNY-Ohio: I'm not a huge Neil Young or CSNY fan but I do like this song and its meaning, which refers to the Kent State massacre in the 70's.
5. Stars-My Favourite Band- It's not what I usually listen to but I still thought it was pretty catchy and that I enjoyed listening to it.
